This is probably the most famous, and the best, quote fromThe Perks of Being a Wallflower.
Because,
It is indeed extremely true.
Love is a complicated concept. How it happens, why it happens, no one truly knows (except for the scientific facts).
Self-esteem and confidence are actually pretty significant factors to consider when “falling in love”. Despite several circumstances we tend to feel attracted to people out of our league. We favour challenging our limits to achieve perfection, it is just in our nature.
It is up to us, people, to decide on what we “deserve”.
When a person has full self-assurance, they believe they deserve the best. Therefore, they are not easily attracted to whomever comes their way.
However, if a person has low self esteem, they may engage in several misleading thoughts:
“I am not good enough to find anyone like him/her.”
This eventually leads to "can’t moving on" and "hopeless devotion". These people are proned to accept anyone, even if the other person treats them worse than a plastic bag.
To all my fellow human beings out there who have desperately fallen into a black hole of love, with people who do not appreciate their interest: you are the one they do not deserve!
Therefore, instead of staying home, devouring a bowl Ben&Jerry's, wear something nice, go outside and find the love you really deserve.
